PUCHONG: The newly established integrated circuit (IC) design park in Puchong, Selangor, is offering competitive salaries to fresh engineering graduates that rival those in Singapore and Vietnam.
The 0.6 hectare park is part of Malaysia's plans to move up the value chain in the semiconductor industry and "Made by Malaysia" ambitions.
According to 'The Edge Malaysia', Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the park aims to attract top talent for the local semiconductor industry by providing attractive remuneration packages.
Engineers with undergraduate degrees can expect salaries ranging from RM5,000 to RM6,000, while those with master's degrees may earn up to RM7,000.
This initiative is part of the state's strategy to secure the best talent amid a regional shortage of IC design expertise.
"Malaysia and Southeast Asia are lacking talent (in IC design) compared to China, Taiwan, and South Korea.
"So, we must offer salaries that match those in Singapore, otherwise, our top talent will leave for our neighbours," Yong said after the launch event at the Puchong Financial Corporate Centre.
