TEMERLOH: A senior woman was killed while her son sustained severe injuries when the car they were traveling in was involved in an accident with two lorries at KM5 of Jalan Jerantut-Temerloh in Kampung Megat Segama here yesterday.
The 64-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and died on the spot in the 3.40pm accident.
Her son, 30, who was behind the wheel, was rushed to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital for injuries to his chest and legs.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the mother-son in a Proton Iswara were on their way to return home to Kampung Raja Songsang from Temerloh.
At the scene of the accident, the driver of the car slowly made a right turn before the vehicle was rammed into from the rear by a lorry.
"The impact of the crash caused the car to enter the opposition lane before the vehicle was hit by another lorry which was coming from Jerantut," he said.
The drivers of both lorries did not suffer any injuries.
Mazlan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
Temerloh Fire and Rescue station operations commander, Zulkiflihaidi Abdul Rashid said his team arrived at the scene to find the woman and her son trapped inside the car.
"A team of six firefighters then extricated the trapped victims using rescue equipment," he said.
