[UPDATED] Fahmi: Civil servants in 'implementing group' to get salary increases between 15pc and 42.7pc

PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants in the "implementing group" are expected to see salary increases of up to 42.7 per cent through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said detailed information on the salary adjustments would be made available next week.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), starting next week, we will get a general overview of the salary increase for civil servants, which will range between 15 and 42.7 per cent," he said, adding that for high-ranking civil servants such as chief secretaries and director-generals of government agencies, the increment would be modest.

"This is part of the Madani government's efforts to ensure that civil servants receive a salary increase," he said during his weekly press conference today.

He said this was among the matters discussed during the cabinet meeting today.

On Monday, Public Service Department deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Mohd Shaiful Ibrahim said that starting next week, civil servants could check and calculate their salary increment rates under SSPA, following the adjustments undertaken by the government.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would announce its details at the 19th Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MAPPA) event on Aug 16.

Fahmi said today's meeting also discussed several aspects involving financial implications for the salary adjustments, which need to be brought to the Cabinet and during the budget presentation scheduled for Oct 18.

"For details, especially from the aspect of the amount that needs to be allocated for salary increases for civil servants, it will be detailed in the 2025 Budget document."

Yesterday, Anwar said the mechanism for adjusting civil servants' salaries would be announced this month.

He said that the preliminary details, or "rough calculations", would be revealed soon, with the full details to be disclosed during the tabling of the 2025 Budget.

During the Labour Day celebration on May 1, Anwar announced a more than 13 per cent increase in civil servants' salaries, among the highest in Malaysia's history.

The increase will be effective Dec 1 this year.
