PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister's Office will issue a statement on the new chief secretary to the government today.
The new appointee will replace Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, whose two-year contract ends on Sunday, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged Zuki's professionalism, commitment and spirit of camaraderie at today's cabinet meeting.
"The cabinet extends congratulations and best wishes for his future success," Fahmi said, adding that today was Zuki's last day as secretary to the cabinet.
On Monday, Anwar said the new candidate for the position of chief secretary to the government would be announced soon.
Anwar, who was speaking at the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly, said Zuki's two-year contract would end on Aug 10.
Zuki had held the post since Dec 31, 2019, and had served under former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
On Aug 11, 2022, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Zuki would continue serving as chief secretary to the government for two more years on a contract basis. His appointment was for two years, until Aug 10 this year.
Zuki began his public service career in December 1992 as an assistant secretary at the Finance Ministry.
He held various positions across ministries and agencies, including Legal Affairs Division director-general under the Prime Minister's Department from Aug 17, 2015, Sarawak's federal affairs secretary from Aug 13, 2016, and senior deputy secretary-general at the Prime Minister's Department from Aug 1, 2017.
Before ascending to the top civil service position, he served as secretary-general at the Defence Ministry starting April 18, 2019.
