ALOR STAR: The Kedah government will award Alor Star-born badminton player Lee Zii Jia incentives for winning the men's Olympic badminton singles bronze medal.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today said the state government would contact Lee's family to decide when the incentives would be awarded.
"There are incentives. We will announce them when he returns.
"It depends on what (type of incentive) he wants, but usually we hand out cash incentives."
Sanusi said the state government would award the incentives to Lee when he returned to Kedah.
"We will wait until he's back. Sometimes he has other championship and training commitments."
He added that other Kedahans competing at the Paris games would receive similar incentives if they won a medal.
"Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri (women's track cyclist) is also from Kedah. They will all get incentives if they win medals."
On Monday, Lee won a second bronze medal for Malaysia after defeating India's Lakshya Sen in the playoff for third place.
