No Malaysians involved in ongoing UK protests

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians are involved in the ongoing protests in the United Kingdom.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed this in a media advisory, saying that it was actively monitoring the protests through the Malaysian high commission in London.

The ministry urged all Malaysians to stay away from these protests and remain vigilant.

It also advised Malaysians to follow the latest updates and guidance provided by local authorities and to register with the high commission to ensure that they can be reached and assisted in case of emergency.

Public unrest flared up following a stabbing that occurred on July 29, with violent protests targeting police and even a mosque after misinformation implicating Muslims spread online.

On Monday, the ministry had warned Malaysians to stay away from the protests as Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that the protests are becoming increasingly worrying and reflected a pattern of intolerance by far-right groups.

Mohamad had said the spread of inaccurate information on social media was dangerous and created additional problems for any country.
