MUAR: Police arrested a suspect linked to the triple murder-cum-arson case in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh, last Friday, after almost a week.
The 48-year old suspect is expected to be remanded at the Muar Magistrate court today.
Muar police launched a manhunt for the suspect following the death of Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82: his wife, Ara Abd Hamid, 76: and their grandchild, Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11.
The deaths were initially thought to be caused by a fire but later police discovered that the victims had been murdered prior, based on the post mortem report.
Noradriana was safely buried last Saturday, while the remains of her grandparents are still at the Forensic Unit of the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing after both were nearly 100 per cent burnt.
The case is being investigated under Section 302, Section 436 and Section 326 of the Penal Code.
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz when contacted confirmed the suspect's arrest.
"The arrested suspect will be brought to court for a remand order today," he said.
It is understood that the police will issue a media statement regarding the suspect's arrest in the near future.
