MUAR: A man who allegedly set fire to a house, killing his parents and another family member, has had his case postponed to December.
Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar scheduled Dec 17 as the new mention date after deputy public prosecutor Nor Aqilah Mohd Rofaie's request for more time as the latter had yet to receive all the case documents such as forensic, post-mortem, and chemical reports.
The accused, 48-year-old Azman Mohamed Nor, is facing three counts of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He allegedly killed his parents, Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82, Ara Abd Hamid, 76, and his niece, Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11, at a house on Jalan Sekolah, Kampung Paya Redan, in Pagoh, between 1am and 3am on Aug 9.
Azman is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for grievously injuring another niece, Norazmina Mohd Razi, 14, with a wooden stick.
Initial investigations classified the deaths as due to a house fire, but police later reclassified the case as murder after they found the victims were injured prior to the fire.
Azman was arrested six days after the incident, in Kuala Lumpur.
If found guilty, he faces the death penalty or up to 40 years in prison with mandatory whipping if not sentenced to death, for each of the charges.
