Recoda develops 105ha agropark in Mukah to showcase sustainable farming

KUCHING: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) is developing a 105ha site in Igan, Mukah Division, into an integrated agropark that will showcase sustainable farming techniques, including smart agriculture.

Recoda Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni said that the agropark project is currently in its early construction phase, with a focus on developing 12ha in the first phase.

"We are concentrating on the first phase, which includes building the access road, basic infrastructure, and essential buildings, as well as developing collection and processing facilities," he said during a site visit yesterday.

The agropark, which is federally funded under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025), is scheduled for completion in 2026.

"This RM20 million agropark will feature dynamic modern farming aimed at revolutionising the region's agricultural practices while also promoting agritourism and ecotourism," he added.

Ismawi added that Recoda's mission aligns with the goal of attracting investments, creating jobs, and fostering economic development in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) region. This will contribute to the overall socio-economic upliftment of the area by creating entrepreneurial opportunities and generating income for the local community.

"Upon completion, the agropark is set to provide an enriching experience for visitors, offering the opportunity to learn about local farming practices. Agriculture-based attractions, such as farmers' markets, will further enhance the appeal," he said.

He added that Recoda remains committed to realising its vision of transforming rural areas within the SCORE region into thriving economic hubs.
