Murdered teacher's husband can't bear to see her mutilated remains

KUALA LUMPUR: The husband of murdered teacher Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi said he does not want to see his wife's body because he could not bear to see the condition of her body.

"When the police hand over the body of my wife, I don't want to see it because I can't bear to see it like that," said her husband, Mohd Yusof Mokhtar.

Mohd Yusof, who works as a technician in Pasir Gudang, said he had accepted the death of his wife.

But he said he could not bear to see the state of his wife's body and would leave it to other family members to handle the funeral rites of his wife.

"She was a good wife and she is now in heaven, although she died in such a tortured manner," he said yesterday.

Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said the results of the DNA analysis would be known by next week at the latest.

Only then, he said, could the remains be claimed by the family.

On Jan 6, it was reported that a headless body which was also missing the arms and legs, was found in a rubbish bin on the side of Jalan Alor-Gajah-Tampin, near Kampung Tanjung Rimau Luar, Pulau Sebang, about 2pm.

The identity of the victim could not be established, with forensic pathologists only able to state that the victim was a woman who was in her 20s or 30s.

A DNA comparison test was made with two cases involving people who were reported missing over the previous month but did not get any results.

After eight months, police on Monday said they had positively identified the body as that of Istiqomah, 33, who was last seen on Dec 26, with her family lodging a report the following day.

A comparison of DNA taken from the body and Istiqomah's mother led to the confirmation.

Mohd Yusof, 35, said he will also keep some of his late wife's personal belongings including her clothes while the rest will be donated to the needy.

He said he was grateful for the efforts and prayers made for the family during the past eight months.

On Aug 5, police arrested a 36-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman in Chemor, Perak.

They were held in custody for six days and the female suspect was later released on bail.

The remand of the male suspect was been extended for another seven days, until Saturday.
