HULU SELANGOR: An accident involving two semi-trailers and a three-tonne lorry has caused severe traffic congestion on the northbound lanes of the North-South Expressway (NSE).
The collision occurred at Km420.2 between Bukit Tagar and Bukit Beruntung. The resulting traffic jam stretches for about 28km.
According to deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus, the accident occurred at 7.05am and involved a 57-year-old trailer driver, who was rear-ended by another semi-trailer.
Following the initial collision, a lorry lost control and crashed into the back of one of the trailers.
All drivers involved in the accident were taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital.
The accident is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
According to the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and Plus Highway earlier today, as of 8.35am, both the left and middle lanes were closed for clearance work, leading to a 28km traffic backlog northbound and 2km southbound.
The lanes reopened by 1.53pm with only the emergency lane still blocked but traffic remained slow in both directions.
Asri has urged the public to provide any information that could assist the investigation and reminded road users to drive cautiously and avoid slowing down near the scene to minimise congestion.
