SIK: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's mother, Meriam Ahmad, 74, who passed away this morning, was laid to rest at the Sungai Pau Muslim Cemetery here.
The process, which concluded about 5.45pm, was attended by some 5,000 mourners.
Among those who attended the funeral were state executive councillors Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah and Dzowahir Ab. Ghani.
Earlier, the body was taken to al Ubudiah Mosque in Sungai Pau for funeral prayers, led by Sanusi's elder brother, Sobri.
Prior to that, her body was taken to the family home here about 11am after being released from the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star.
Sanusi thanked all parties who had paid their last respects to his late mother.
"On behalf of my father and my siblings, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who has paid last respect to my mother and took part in her funeral prayers.
"Special thanks also to the al Ubudiah Mosque's committee and congregants for managing the funeral process," he said.
Meriam died from heart complications about 9.40am today at the HSB intensive care unit, three days after being admitted.
She is survived by husband Md Nor Taib, 83, and 13 children.
