SUBANG JAYA: The New Straits Times Press (NSTP) celebrated a podium sweep at last night's Media Merdeka Go-Kart Endurance Race, with Harian Metro securing first place and the New Straits Times (NST) finishing third.
The race, held at the Elite Speedway PLUS Karting Circuit, featured 18 teams from various media organisations competing in a challenging hour-long night race.
Organised by PLUS Malaysia Bhd, the event tested each team's endurance, teamwork, and strategic skills.
Harian Metro's team dubbed Metro Siput Drivers, showcased exceptional skill and determination, leading from the start and maintaining a fast pace to clinch the top spot on the podium.
The NST Thunder Karts demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming stiff competition and advancing from eighth place to secure third.
Their strategic manoeuvres and well-timed pit stops proved crucial in achieving their podium finish.
Additionally, NST's executive editor Sharanjit Singh earned a podium finish in the VIP race, despite the rain threat during the free practice session.
The event was attended by NSTP Group Managing Editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, NST Group Editor Farrah Naz Karim, and Berita Harian Deputy Group Editor M. Thillinadan.
PLUS Malaysia Bhd's corporate communications head, Iskandar Dzulkifli said that the media appreciation programme was not only a chance to experience go-kart racing but also to strengthen camaraderie with PLUS management.
"We want to celebrate media practitioners who have long supported PLUS through their reporting, support, and advice," he said.
"This event is our way of appreciating their support and providing a fun opportunity to try go-karting."
Prizes for the Endurance category included RM2,000 for first place, RM1,000 for second, RM800 for third, RM700 for fourth, and RM500 for fifth.
The programme received an enthusiastic response from participants.
