KAJANG: Harian Metro journalist Hafidzul Hilmi Mohd Noor emerged as the champion of a shooting competition organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in collaboration with the media at the Malaysian Prison College Shooting Range here today.
Hafidzul defeated 70 participants from 25 media agencies in the individual precision and plate shooting categories.
Media Prima deputy group managing editor Farrah Naz Abd Karim won third place in the women's category.
The programme was held on the occasion of MACC's 57th anniversary celebration.
Their victory earned them a plaque and a certificate of appreciation.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said without the cooperation of the media, the private sector, government agencies and the public, efforts to combat corruption would become challenging.
"This programme and others we organise throughout the year aim to strengthen ties with our stakeholders.
"Our hope is that through initiatives like this, we can get to know each other better, not just in formal settings, but also through recreational and sports activities," he said.
Present was Media Prima Television Networks news and current affairs group editor Kamaruddin Mape.
According to Azam, corruption was becoming increasingly challenging to resolve, with more complex modus operandi.
"Therefore, MACC is rising to this challenge by ensuring we stay one step ahead. Our officers undergo regular training in investigation techniques and the use of the latest technology, such as financial trail investigations and cryptocurrency tracking.
"We also specialise in polygraph usage and equip ourselves with comprehensive knowledge of legal and enforcement frameworks.
"I urge media practitioners to embrace this challenge as well, particularly by deepening their understanding of the latest anti-corruption initiatives, such as the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS 2024-2028), and by familiarising themselves with laws and regulations related to enforcement.
"These steps will help you provide more holistic and informative coverage, making it easier for the public to understand complex issues," he said.
