KUALA LUMPUR: A top Umno leader today claimed Barisan Nasional is leading with a majority of 1,570 votes after unofficial results showed the coalition won six of the 20 polling districts in the Nenggiri state seat by-election in Kelantan.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a social media post on his Facebook page, listed the polling districts as Tohoi, Sungai Puian, Sungai Jenera, Kuala Sungai, Pos Simpor, and Sungai Wias.
Asyraf claimed that unofficial results showed BN winning the Sungai Jenera polling district with a majority of 352 votes, after its candidate polled 444 votes against Perikatan Nasional's 88 votes.
He also claimed that PN trailed behind by securing only five votes against BN's 305 votes in the Sungai Puian polling district
BN is fielding Kelantan Umno Youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani to go against Rizwadi Ismail of PN for the Nenggiri by-election.
