YAN: A fisherman is feared to have drowned while casting for prawns in Kampung Seberang Tandop, Kuala Sala, yesterday.
Yan deputy district police chief Superintendent Shahnaz Akhtar Haji said the victim, Ahmad Hashim, 71, from Kampung Seberang Kuala Sala, Kota Sarang Semut, has not been found so far.
He said the incident is believed to have occurred around 6pm yesterday, with a police report filed to inform authorities of the situation.
"A Fire and Rescue Department team initiated a surface search along Sungai Kuala Sala, using a boat rotation method in the area of the incident.
"Divers from the Civil Defence Force conducted a search near the last location where the victim was seen drowning," he said when contacted today.
Shahnaz added that the search operation for the missing victim is continuing today.
