ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police seized 97 motorcycles and issued 314 summonses in an operation against 'Mat Rempit' at Lebuh Ismail Sultan and the SecondLink highway, here, over the weekend.
The two-day operation codenamed 'Op Samseng Jalanan' also led to the arrest of two teenagers aged 14 and 17, for performing dangerous stunts, including wheelies.
District deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Azlan Abdul Kadir said the operation was spearheaded by the elite Squad 42 traffic enforcement team, which inspected 126 vehicles and 136 individuals.
The seized motorcycles were found to have various illegal modifications, such as non-compliant exhaust systems, fancy registration plates, and missing side mirrors, while the motorists were fined for driving without a valid licence or insurance coverage.
Azlan also urged parents to monitor their children's activities closely to prevent their involvement in risky road behaviour that could lead to serious accidents, fatalities or injuries to other road users.
