MMEA rushes toddler in need of urgent medical treatment to Mersing hospital

MERSING: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) executed an emergency medical evacuation after a two-year-old girl with breathing difficulties was rushed off Pulau Aur, here, to the hospital, today.

District Maritime Zone director Suhaizan Saadin said in the 1.45pm incident, the district health officer requested for the medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).

The toddler required urgent treatment after receiving initial care at the island's health clinic.

The MMEA deployed its Perkasa 44 patrol boat for the evacuation, with a medical team, including an assistant from Mersing Hospital, accompanying the patient during the transfer.

"The evacuation operation concluded smoothly with the boat reaching Shahbandar jetty, here, within an hour," he said in a statement today.

He encouraged the islanders to report any emergencies or incidents at sea to their operations centre at 07-798 2529 or 011-5322 6060.

Alternatively, they can call the Johor State Maritime Operations Centre at 07-219 9404 or dial the NG999 emergency hotline for assistance.
