KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should seek an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and apologise, says former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
In an episode of his podcast, Keluar Sekejap, Khairy said while such remarks may usually only cause a political ruckus, that changes when there is a clear reprimand from the royalty.
This was after Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed anger and deep regret over Muhyiddin's remarks during the Nenggiri by-election.
According to Tengku Hassanal, Muhyiddin seemingly questioned the then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong's fairness in appointing the 10th prime minister.
"The way that (Muhyiddin) said his remarks was as if he was questioning the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's absolute decision to appoint the prime minister according to the constitution," Khairy said.
He said Muhyiddin's remarks were not only improper towards the royal institution but also politically disadvantageous.
"Move on. This is something that happened two years ago. The past is the past. You did not get (the position)," Khairy said.
Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, has been called to give a statement to the police today, but the session was postponed tomorrow due to the unavailability of his lawyer.
It was reported that police had received 30 reports against Muhyiddin, involving investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code.
