KOTA BARU: Police have confirmed that they have taken statements from several people to assist in their investigation into six cases related to the Nenggiri state by-election.
Without providing details about the individuals, state police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said they were summoned to the Gua Musang station recently. However, he said that there are still several others whose statements have yet to be recorded.
"The investigation into the six cases for which we have opened investigation papers related to the Nenggiri by-election is still ongoing.
"Police need to carry out a thorough probe into these cases as they involve several agencies.
"There was one case involving an individual who edited a video of a ceramah organised by a political party during the Nenggiri by-election campaign. For this case, we need to verify the video first," he said.
Zaki was speaking to reporters after launching the state police headquarters' media centre here today.
Zaki recently said that investigation papers had been opened for six of the 18 reports related to suspected election offences since the Nenggiri by-election nomination day on Aug 3.
He added that the alleged offences included incitement and posting offensive remarks.
He said the six cases are being investigated under Section 4A of the Election Offenses Act 1954, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
Zaki added that another 12 reports are isolated cases.
