KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to establish the Core Economic Action Council (CEAC) to allow the country to shift towards new sources of growth and production.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad c said this will involve the rare earth elements, green innovation and investment, digital economy, as well as technical and vocational education and training sectors.
"Through CEAC, a progressive taxation regime to boost national revenue could be considered by the government," he said in his presidential policy speech at the 2024 Umno General Assembly today.
Among those present were Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, vice-presidents Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Datuk Seri Johari Ghani and Wan Rosdy, as well as secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said Umno will remain committed to empowering Bumiputera.
He added that since the Bumiputera Economic Congress was implemented in 1965 by Umno, the party has continued to play a key role in upholding the Bumiputera economic agenda.
He also said Umno will continue to monitor the resolutions and the announcements made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the congress, such as the allocation of up to RM1 billion for Bumiputera micro-credit financing and an initial grant of RM100 million for the Mara Madani Waqf fund.
"Our task is to ensure that every resolution and initiative is being thoroughly implemented and achieves its objectives to ensure that the benefits truly reach Bumiputeras in need.
"Therefore, we will propose that annual studies and reports be conducted to assess their effectiveness."
