KLUANG: The Works Ministry has provided expert opinions and advice concerning the sinkhole incident in the Masjid India area in Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the opinions included important maintenance issues that should be addressed in both the short and long terms.
He said this decision was made following the cabinet meeting yesterday.
"The affected road falls under Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), not under the Public Works Department (PWD).
"PWD has been asked to provide expert advice, and I have discussed this with the relevant officers who have been called to the site several times.
"For me, there is no need for excessive concern because the affected area is within the same vicinity, in Masjid India. It's not like the (incident occurred) in Segambut or near Parliament... no, it happened in the same location.
"That's why maintenance involves several parties, including DBKL and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK)," he told reporters.
Ahmad was asked about the steps taken by PWD regarding the sinkhole incident in the Masjid India area.
He said the public should not worry since the issue is confined to the same area.
"The sinkhole incident is concentrated in the nearby area and should not cause excessive doubts.
"Maintenance needs to be carried out in the surrounding area, especially in the area of sewerage," he said.
Yesterday, Jalan Masjid India was closed off until a safety audit can be completed following the emergence of a new sinkhole, located 50m from the first one.
