KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked the Civil Defence Force, National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and Umno's Sabil squad to rebuild the bridges that collapsed in Slim River.
Zahid, who is also the Central Disaster Management Committee chairman, said they should also help the flood victims as soon as possible.
"As chairman of the committee, I am directing the Sabil squad, the Civil Defence Force, and Nadma to repair the collapsed bridge and help flood victims as fast as they can."
The Umno president said this in his winding up speech at the Umno General Assembly here, today.
Yesterday, scores of people were left stranded after a burst dam in Kampung Ulu Slim, near Kampung Slim caused a powerful surge of water, flooding their homes.
The burst dam, which followed intense rainfall, also led to the collapse of three bridges - Kampung Slim bridge, Ulu Slim bridge, and Kampung Piong bridge.
