Slim River bridge collapse: 19, including babies, stranded [WATCH]

SLIM RIVER: Nineteen people are still stranded at the Risda Eco Park in Ulu Slim after a burst dam led to the collapse of a bridge here yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing.

"They are still stranded because the bridge connecting the recreational area collapsed, and the water current is still strong," he told reporters at the site of the collapsed bridge today.

"Electricity in the area has also been cut off, but we can still contact them."

So far, 175 people have been moved to two temporary shelters.

Yesterday, scores of people were left stranded after a burst dam in Kampung Ulu Slim, near Kampung Slim caused a powerful surge of water, flooding their homes.

The burst dam, which followed intense rainfall, also led to the collapse of three bridges.
