[UPDATED] Anwar: PH open to talks on working with BN in GE16

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan is open to discussing potential collaboration with Barisan Nasional for the next general elections, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that PH's current partnership with Umno within the unity government had been positive and satisfactory.

"Our relationship with Umno is good so far and it is satisfactory to collaborate again in the future.

"We are open to discussions," he said to reporters at the sidelines of the nationwide mosque muktamar for Al-Aqsa and Palestine.

On Aug 23, Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested in his policy speech that Umno might consider not going solo in the upcoming general election.

He later clarified that this approach was aimed at preventing seat overlaps with other parties in the unity government.

"We are now a component party in the unity government. Therefore, to prevent issues such as seat overlapping, we must work together, but we will continue using the 'dacing' symbol.

"This is also what we will do in the Mahkota by-election, so all sides respect and allow the party that previously held the seat to contest it again.

"So, that is what I mean by not going solo, we need to work together and use our own symbols," he said.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani also said there was no need for Umno to go it alone in GE16.

He said now would be the time for the component parties in the unity government to find their tempo and compatibility to win the election and form the federal government.

Meanwhile, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the party leadership would decide if the party should go it alone in GE16 when the time came.
