Anwar extends sympathy to sinkhole victim's family [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to meet with the family of a woman who fell into a sinkhole in Jalan Masjid India here on Friday.

In expressing his sympathy and condolences to the family Vijayaletchumi, 48, he said search for the victim is ongoing.

"The search and rescue mission continues. There are still issues with the soil that we need to address," he told reporters at the sidelines of the nationwide mosque muktamar for Al-Aqsa and Palestine.

The search and rescue operation for Vijayaletchumi, 48, from Andhra Pradesh, India resumed after it was halted last night.

It was reported that the authorities finished inspecting all six manholes from Jalan Masjid India to the sewerage pond in Pantai Dalam.

However, there are still no signs of the 48-year-old Indian national who fell into a sinkhole on Friday.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said there were no new clues that could lead to the victim's discovery.

Yesterday, authorities were searching along a 7km sewage line, which can be accessed from six manholes.
