KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has appointed a legal team to represent its chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who will face sedition charges in the Gua Musang magistrate's court tomorrow (Aug 27).
Bersatu chief Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said that Muhyiddin's legal team would include more than seven lawyers.
Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, the Pas secretary-general, will also be part of the team.
Kamarudin said that several PN leaders were expected to attend the court proceedings to support Muhyiddin.
"All Bersatu and PN members have been informed about the court case scheduled for tomorrow.
"In addition to PN and Bersatu leaders, representatives from the state government are also expected to be present," he told reporters after Jewel Hotel's "Jiwa Merdeka" programme today.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the PN chairman would be charged tomorrow in Gua Musang.
He added Muhyiddin would be charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.
On Aug 21, the police referred the investigation into Muhyiddin to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
The probe focuses on allegations that Muhyiddin made inflammatory remarks regarding race, religion, and royalty (3R). During the investigation, statements were taken from 66 individuals.
Muhyiddin is accused of questioning the sovereignty of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The allegations stemmed from Muhyiddin's claim that, following the 15th General Election, he secured the support of 115 members of parliament, which he argues should have led to his appointment as the 10th prime minister.
Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had also called on the police to take action against Muhyiddin for allegedly touching on 3R issues.
Muhyiddin had furnished several documents to the police, including statutory declarations from the MPs who supported him, as well as correspondence with Istana Negara.
He also gave a total of 114 statutory declarations from members of the Dewan Rakyat who trusted him to be appointed as prime minister.
These were submitted to Istana Negara on Nov 21 that year at 1.28pm, along with another statutory declaration submitted on Nov 22.
The letter of acknowledgement from Colonel (Rtd) Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim, the senior private secretary to the then Agong, dated Nov 21, confirming that he received the documents.
