Mahkota by-election brings windfall to Kluang's hospitality sector

KLUANG: As the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28 approaches, hotel and homestay operators in the district are overwhelmed with bookings.

Prime City Hotel's head of sales Ruhaiza Ruslan said that all 105 rooms at the hotel, located at No. 20, Jalan Bakawali, Kampung Masjid Lama, had been taken up for the Sept 13 to 28 period.

"Prices remain unchanged during the Mahkota PRK period. We offer three pricing packages: standard, corporate, and government rates.

"Typically, bookings surge during school holidays or when there are seminars and events. However, this unexpected Mahkota by-election has brought a windfall to us, the hotel operators," she said when contacted today.

Ruhaiza has assured that the hotel staff is committed to providing top-notch service to all guests.

Zainudin Rentah, 56, a homestay operator at Homestay Hajah Sal in Taman Desa, said that his property was fully booked from Sept 18 to 28 by clients from Putrajaya.

"The accommodation is priced at RM200 per night, and the client has booked for 11 days and 10 nights. We've kept the pricing the same as before to avoid any issues, and the Mahkota by-election has certainly brought us, homestay operators, a fortunate opportunity," he said.

The Election Commission has set the polling day for the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28.

Nomination day and early voting are scheduled for Sept 14 and 24, respectively.

The campaign period will last 14 days, beginning with the declaration of candidates and ending at 11.59pm on Sept 27.
