KUALA LUMPUR: Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scans will be conducted by the Minerals and Geoscience Department as the search and rescue operations for the tourist swallowed by a sinkhole at Jalan Masjid India enters its seventh day.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall's media unit said the search team's priority was to find the victim as soon as possible.

"Relentless efforts are being made continuously by the entire team.

"Work using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) will be continued by the Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG)," it said in a statement today.

It added that DBKL would continue to work with the search team including the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defense Force, Public Works Department, Malaysia Nuclear Agency Malaysia, Minerals and Geosciences Department, and Indah Water Konsortium.

Meanwhile, KL Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif expressed her gratitude to the search team who worked tirelessly day and night to search for the victim.

"The spirit and commitment shown by all those involved in the team is appreciated. Let us pray that all officers continue to be given good health and that this effort can resolved immediately," she said.

On Aug 23, an Indian tourist known as Vijayaletchumy, 48, went missing after falling into an eight-metre sinkhole in Jalan Masjid India while passing through the road to go to a nearby temple.

The search and rescue operation was activated on the same day involving members from various security forces and local authorities using various techniques including the use of tracker dog units and the 'jetting' method.
