[UPDATED] Hajiji: GRS will work with any political party for good of Sabah

PENAMPANG: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah would work with as many political parties as possible, said its chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

"This government is made up of several parties including national parties (coalitions) such as Pakatan Harapan and some from Barisan Nasional.

"What is good for us, we will think on how to ensure our state continues to develop and unite," he told reporters after the second Annual Conference and Convention of the Sabah State Headmasters Association at a ballroom here.

The chief minister was responding to a question on United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia who had voiced out that GRS should contest solo in the upcoming state election.

Usno is one of the eight components within the coalition. The others are Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, Sabah Progressive Party, Liberal Democratic Party, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, and Parti Cinta Sabah.

"That (statement) is his opinion. (Collectively), we have yet to make any decision. We have our friends within the government," said Hajiji.

When asked whether GRS would also include Parti Warisan Sabah as an ally, he said: "We will look into it."

Meanwhile, GRS deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Pandikar's proposal was actually referring to a suggestion that other parties use a common logo, that of GRS, to contest in the state election.

"I think what he means is everybody should contest under (the) GRS (logo), whether you are PH or whatever. We use only one logo.

"That only shows how united we are. I think that will be more important. We are seen as one bloc," he said at another event at Menara Kinabalu for the Sabah Day Talk.

The 73-seat state legislative assembly has 24 lawmakers from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah; 14 from Parti Warisan; 11 Umno; seven from Parti Bersatu Sabah; Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (six); DAP (four); two each from PKR and Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat and one each from Upko, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and GRS.
