Mayor: Geotechnical report now required for all KL projects

PUTRAJAYA: Developers are now required to submit a geotechnical report for all projects in Kuala Lumpur.

Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif this requirement would be enforced immediately for three categories of applications.

"This applies to applications that have been approved, but the development order has not yet been issued, applications that are still processing and future applications."

A geotechnical report is a detailed study of the underground conditions where a construction is planned.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa raised this matter at a press conference after the end of the search-and-rescue operation for the Indian tourist who fell into a sinkhole in Jalan Masjid India.

The emergence of two sinkholes in Jalan Masjid India recently has raised public concern.

Asked about the framework for the sinkhole repair process, Maimunah said it included an integrity audit, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) inspecting water channels and a geological study on the area's soil stability.

"That's why it will take three to six months, because we need a detailed study from the Kampung Baru gateway to Mydin."

She advised the public to comply with instructions and cooperate with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall during the work to repair the affected areas.
