KUALA LUMPUR: Culinary sensation Khairul Aming today introduced New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to a favourite breakfast of Malaysians.
In a posting on X, he showed how he hosted his distinguished guest to a traditional dish of roti jala and teh tarik at the Hidang restaurant here.
The food influencer, known for his mouth-watering recipes and vibrant personality, also introduced nasi lemak, cendol and other local kuih (pastries) to Luxon.
He showed the Kiwi leader how the rich flavours of Malaysian cuisine were prepared.
Khairul, 32, whose real name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, said Luxon's meeting was a gesture of appreciation for the promotional videos he made in New Zealand.
"I took the opportunity to introduce him to a Malaysian breakfast while exchanging opinions on tourism exchange between Malaysia and New Zealand, trade exports of halal meat and dairy, nature preservation and the potential export of local SME products to New Zealand," he wrote in his post.
Luxon also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to Khairul, who travelled to New Zealand earlier this year to record nine episodes of his culinary adventure showcasing the country's produce.
"I got to say you're a legend, I like your trademark 'Hey what's up guys'.
"It was awesome having you in New Zealand and seeing you cooking with some New Zealand produce as well.
"Thanks so much for breakfast this morning, it was great and fun," Luxon said.
Khairul, who left his job as an oil and gas engineer in 2020 to pursue a career as a digital creator, currently has over four million followers on Instagram.
At the end of his posting, he left an inspirational message for his viewers.
"Eight years ago, I filmed my first cooking video while sitting on the floor. Today, I have the privilege of sitting next to the prime minister of a renowned nation. Keep hustling, you'll be amazed at where life can take you," he wrote.
