KUANTAN: Residents in the state capital have been cautioned against being duped by road contractors to fork out money to resurface the driveway outside their homes.
Semambu assemblyman Chan Chun Kuang said his service centre had received complaints from residents that some contractors were charging between RM300 and RM800 for resurfacing the driveways.
"I have clarified the matter with Kuantan Council City's (MBK) concessionaire SMR Selenggara.
"There are no charges imposed on homeowners for works done by contractors outside the house, and MBK will cover the entire cost to repair and resurface the roads at housing areas.
"Residents are advised not to make any payments to those taking advantage by offering resurfacing services at their respective house entrance," he said in a statement today.
Chan said those who had fallen victim to such fraud should lodge a police report to allow the authorities to track down and take action against the offenders.
He was responding to a social media posting by a Facebook user who was seeking an explanation from MBK after being told to pay to resurface the entranceway of his home.
MSMR Selenggara-Pahang Sdn Bhd, in a Facebook posting, said investigations had found a third party taking advantage to charge homeowners for resurfacing the driveway of their homes despite it being the responsibility of MBK contractors.
