'Wallahi, I did not take 1 sen,' says Muhyiddin over 1BestariNet links [WATCH]

KLUANG: "Wallahi (I swear to Allah), I did not take 1 sen." This was former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's reaction after reports of him being linked to investigations into the 1BestariNet project worth RM4 billion.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided YTL Communications Sdn Bhd's office on Wednesday, as part of its probe into the project introduced in 2011.

At the time, Muhyiddin was the education minister under Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration.

Muhyiddin also said he welcomed MACC's investigation as he was confident that he was not involved in the controversial project.

"They've investigated this before, but nothing happened after that. Now it has become an issue again. Why MACC is investigating, I do not know.

"I'm not involved at all in the allegations, because when it happened I was education minister," he said when met after an event in Kampung Bentong Luar here, today.

Muhyiddin said at the time, the project was proposed for open tender and was then conducted via an international open tender.

He said the decision was made by Najib as prime minister and finance minister at the time, but did not involve him.

"He (Najib) was the one who made the decision, so why are they linking it to me? I did not even see the contract and any allocation for the project was provided by the finance minister.

"Now there are new allegations of false claims, which I don't know of. I only got to know about it after reading the news," he added.

Asked if he was ready to cooperate with the MACC, Muhyiddin reiterated that he had nothing to do with the controversy.

MACC conducted raids at a government office and the YTL Communications Sdn Bhd office in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Sources said several documents were seized, and the commission was in the process of identifying witnesses to assist in the investigation.
