KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani wants the Health Ministry and the Economy Ministry to look into the issue of extreme overcrowding at the Kampung Pandan government health clinic.
Johari, the Titiwangsa member of Parliament and Plantations and Commodities Minister, said the healthcare facility served over 1,000 patients a day.
"The capacity I think is between 300 and 600 patients, but thousands visit the clinic daily.
"Some who come to the clinic live outside of the Titiwangsa constituency such as Pandan and Ampang.
"It has become so crowded that they have to use containers (as makeshift treatment rooms)."
He said this after launching the 2024 World Eczema Day at Hospital Kuala Lumpur here, today.
As the Kampung Pandan area developed, Johari added, the government health clinic would need to serve a larger population.
"I have applied to the Health Ministry and I've also spoken to Rafizi Ramli as the Economy Minister who takes care of infrastructure.
"I told him to take a look at how we can resolve the issue of overcrowding and discomfort. There are just too many people, and they are using containers. I feel worried, too."
Johari said the Kampung Pandan government health clinic was over 40 years old and was due for an expansion.
"The situation in the clinic is chronic. We can see KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers) from the clinic, but once you enter the premises, you see containers.
"I've also discussed this matter with the Federal Territories Health Department and they said they've identified a land in Chocrane marked for that (the expansion)," he added.
