LANGKAWI: About 5,000 residents of Pulau Tuba will enjoy enhanced amenities, including upgraded roads, water supply, electricity, and better internet connectivity, following the completion of an RM2.5 million development project.
Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) deputy chief executive officer Wan Kamarul Faisal Wan Kamardin said the infrastructure project is part of the Madani Adopted Village programme.
"Pulau Tuba is one of 42 villages nationwide selected for the Madani Adopted Village programme, introduced under the 2024 Budget, with each receiving RM2.5 million in funding.
"Key projects currently underway include the construction of three tube wells, serving a mosque and two schools, the installation of 100 solar lamps, and road maintenance on the 17.63 square kilometre island.
"Additionally, we are installing carpets and repairing the mosque's toilets," he said at a press conference after presenting prizes for the Tuba Cross Country (TCC) event at SK Pulau Tuba today.
Wan Kamarul said the development projects in Pulau Tuba, under the Madani Adopted Village programme, are overseen by the Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, with Lada acting as the implementing agency.
Commenting on the cross-country event, he said the inaugural event, which is part of the Madani Adopted Village activities, attracted 368 participants and was divided into two categories: a 10km race and a 5km 'Fun Run'.
"With the theme 'Discover The Wonders of Tuba Island,' participants ran through scenic fishing villages, padi fields, and coastal areas, offering fresh and picturesque views," he added.
