KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas natural gas vehicles (NGV) Sdn Bhd launched three aid packages to help NGV vehicle owners transition to alternative fuels, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
These are aimed at NGV taxi drivers, petrol-powered vehicles modified for dual-fuel use and imported vehicles designed exclusively for NGV operation (mono-fuel).
Loke said each eligible taxi driver would receive an e-voucher worth RM3,000 via the Setel application as a one-off payment.
"The NGV taxi drivers must have a valid driver's card and vehicle permit from the Land Public Transport Agency and were active from Jan 1 to Sept 30, this year.
"To prevent misuse, individuals registering as NGV taxi drivers after Sept 30 will not be eligible for this package.
"Successful applicants will receive this one-off assistance within 15 to 30 working days," he said at a press conference here today.
The second package, Loke said, covered the removal of NGV components, particularly tanks, from modified vehicles, dual-fuel vehicles, including NGV taxis, with all costs fully covered at registered workshops.
"Eligibility requires that these vehicle types must be dual-fuel, registered with the Road Transport Department (RTD), and active from Oct 1, 2021 to Sept 30, this year," he said.
The third package, Loke said, offered a one-off payment to owners of mono-fuel NGV vehicles based on their current market value, as determined by a qualified independent valuer.
"The vehicle type must be a mono-fuel NGV registered with RTD and active from Oct 1, 2021 to Sept 30, this year.
"Any vehicle owner accepting this offer must send their vehicle to a licensed Authorised Automotive Treatment Facility (AATF) for disposal and cancel the vehicle registration with RTD," he said.
This, Loke said, was to prevent misuse and illegal modifications that could pose further dangers.
He said payments for this assistance package would be made within three to seven working days after submission of the Certificate of Destruction and the vehicle registration cancellation slip (form K1d) by the AATF representative.
Loke said applications to review eligibility and obtain the transition packages were open from today and should be submitted via the website www.peralihanngv.com.
The deadlines for each application are as follows: the one-off transition assistance package for NGV taxi drivers must be submitted by Dec 31, 2024; the transition assistance package for dual-fuel vehicles by April 30, 2025, and the transition assistance package for mono-fuel vehicles by Dec 31, 2024.
