Kedah floods: Umno calls for speedy aid for affected farmers, petty traders

ALOR STAR: Kedah Umno has called on the federal government to expedite aid for farmers and petty traders in the state affected by the massive floods.

Its information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said farmers and petty traders in Kedah were severely hit by the disaster since Monday.

"Kedah Umno welcomes swift action by the federal government to channel initial cash aid of RM1,000 to floods victims in Kedah.

"Kedah Umno also hoped that the federal government will act in disbursing aid to farmers and petty traders who were hit by the disaster," he said in a statement.

Shaiful also urged the federal and state governments to find the best mechanism to expedite all the necessary aid to the victims without any bureaucratic issues and difficult procedures.

"Kedah Umno is calling for the machinery in both federal and state governments to join hands to ease the peoples' burden and to put aside political differences during this extremely challenging time," he said.

Kedah is devastated by the worst floods disaster in recent years with the number of floods evacuees soared to over 6,400 people today.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the state government would disburse RM1,000 cash aid to each family relocated to temporary flood relief centres .

Sanusi, in a statement, said the federal government's RM1,000 aid, distributed through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), will https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/09/1107818/kedah-disburse-rm1000...)through the Kedah State Development Office to the flood evacuees.
