PN aims for Mahkota win with Bersatu candidate

KLUANG: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that the coalition, which is fielding a candidate from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for the Mahkota by-election, will secure a victory on Sept 24.

This confidence, he said, is based on the groundwork laid by the PN election machinery, which has been mobilised for some time under the leadership of the Mahkota by-election director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also a member of Bersatu's supreme council and Johor Bersatu chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, said all PN component parties, including Pas and Gerakan, have already been actively working for the past few weeks.

"With that foundation, God willing, I am confident and believe we will achieve victory, even though we have been informed that around 55 per cent of the voters here are Malays, with the rest being non-Malays," he told reporters after the candidate nomination process at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail today.

The former Johor menteri besar said PN is also prepared to manage the state government in future.

The coalition's readiness was based on its success in the 15th general election (GE15), he said.

Muhyiddin argued that the current government has been unable to resolve issues affecting the people, such as the cost of living and various other challenges.

"Based on our experience governing both at the national and state levels, we have demonstrated that we can bring forward a significant agenda for the development of the people in Mahkota.

"PN is ready to offer services or any essential assistance to protect voters' welfare here, regardless of race," he added.
