PN rejects allocation MoU over concerns on Malay rights and MP freedoms [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has rejected two proposed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) from the government concerning MP allocations.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that both MoUs – one between the Government of Malaysia and PN, and the other between the Government and PN MPs – were unanimously turned down due to several concerns.

He claimed the MoUs contained conditions that could "jeopardise the special rights of Malays and Bumiputeras" under the Federal Constitution.

He also criticised the drafts for conflicting with traditional, cultural, moral, religious, and local values.

Additional concerns included the potential for "misinterpretation and abuse of power" due to unclear compliance mechanisms.

Hamzah also argued that the MoUs would restrict MPs' freedom of speech, protected by the Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952.

Furthermore, he accused Pakatan Harapan of failing to fulfil its manifesto promise of equitable Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations for all MPs, regardless of party affiliation.

Earlier this month, PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan revealed that the government's proposed MoUs included seven obligations, such as supporting the government until the end of the 15th parliamentary term and asset declarations.
