'No reports on GISB Holdings in Johor, but authorities monitoring'

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Islamic Religious Department has not received any complaints or reports on alleged misconduct involving GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said despite this, the authorities would continue to monitor the company's activities, including its operations and religious practices, to ensure compliance with state regulations.

"We are monitoring GISB's operations in Johor. We have not received any reports or complaints about it.

"They are involved in business, but that is not an issue. Our concern is about deviant religious teachings.

"As long as there is no wrongdoing, it can continue to operate."

He said this at the closing ceremony of the 10th National Religious Secondary School Scientific Knowledge Competition at the Iskandar Islamic Centre here today.

The event was officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

Fared said in the past, reports had been lodged on former GISB leaders.

"Since 2011, four complaints have been lodged against former GISB leaders in Johor, before it rebranded.

"It is a new entity now and there have been no new reports.

"The situation in Johor is under control. I cannot speak for other states.

"If there are issues with religious teachings, the religious department will take action."

It was reported that police raided 20 welfare homes linked to GISB in Selangor and Negri Sembilan on Wednesday.

Police rescued 402 children and youths from the homes, some of whom are believed to be victims of child exploitation and child abuse.

GISB does not have any shelters or homes registered in Johor. (https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/09/1105353/inspections-johor-she...)
