SIK: Heavy rains and strong winds since yesterday evening have damaged three homes, while five more were crushed by uprooted trees in the Sik district.
Sik Civil Defence Force officer Lt Haisul Aishah Mohd Napiah said the agency had handled 15 storm-related cases in the district from 7pm yesterday until this evening.
She said uprooted trees also blocked roads and destroyed utility lines.
"Intermittent rain since this morning in Sik has led to more fallen trees," she said in a statement today.
She said the agency remained on high alert and was monitoring water levels in major rivers.
"The current water level at Sungai Chepir is at the 'alert' stage. We urge drivers and people at home, particularly in high-risk areas, to stay cautious."
Meanwhile, Kubang Pasu Civil Defence Force officer Mohd Adenin Suhaimi said the agency was closely monitoring flash floods in the district.
"We are monitoring the situation at Km22.5 of the North-South Expressway, and the number of affected homes and victims is still being ascertained.
"Heavy rain since this morning has caused water levels to rise in several areas. The cause of the flash floods is being determined."
He confirmed that no temporary flood relief centres had been activated in the areas.
