Man killed after Axia hit by out-of-control S70

KUCHING: A man was killed after the Perodua Axia he was in was hit by a Proton S70 driven by a foreign woman in Jalan Teo Kui Sing here, early this morning.

The 40-year-old victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) emergency unit at 3.30am.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the incident occurred around 1am when the 35-year-old foreign woman lost control of her Proton S70, which was travelling from Kuching Airport towards Stutong, and entered the opposite lane.

At the same time, the Perodua Axia, with two men inside, was travelling along Jalan Teo Kui Sing and was unable to avoid the Proton S70, resulting in a collision.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.

"Upon conviction, the offender could face up to 10 years in prison and an RM50,000 fine," Farhan said.

The 34-year-old man driving the Perodua Axia sustained minor injuries, while the woman driving the Proton S70 was uninjured.
