17 fallen trees; severe weather in Perak

IPOH: Severe weather conditions persisting since yesterday have led to at least 17 cases of fallen trees in Perak.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said 12 cases were reported today.

The Lenggong and Taiping fire and rescue stations received distress calls regarding two cases, followed by Kamunting (1), Gerik (1), Pengkalan Hulu (1), Seri Manjung (1), Selama (1), Bagan Serai (1), Kuala Kangsar (1), Trong (1), Parit (1), and Sungai Siput (1).

Sabarodzi added that this did not include two additional cases in Sungai Siput, as the clearing works were still ongoing as of 4.43pm today, bringing the total to 17 cases of fallen trees.

"For the Sungai Siput case, trees fell on two vehicles parked by the roadside on Batu 1, Jalan Lintang. However, no casualties were reported.

"In Gerik, a tree fell on a Proton Waja car, which was already moved by passers-by. The car is no longer there.

"So today, there were 12 cases of fallen trees throughout the state," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that four people were injured after a tree fell on their vehicles during a storm accompanied by strong winds on Jalan Kamunting, Taman Glen View, here today.

Sabarodzi said they received a distress call at 12.53pm and a team of firemen from Kamunting was dispatched to the scene.

Sabarodzi said the victims were riding a Yamaha motorcycle and a Perodua Alza car in the 12.50pm incident.
