ALOR STAR: The ongoing bad weather continues to disrupt ferry services between Langkawi and Kuala Kedah, causing trip cancellations that affected more than 3,000 passengers for the third consecutive day yesterday.
All trips after 11am were cancelled due to 3.5m-high waves, making travel dangerous.
Konsortium Ferrylines Ventures Sdn Bhd general manager Captain Dr Baharin Baharom confirmed that 3,505 passengers were affected by the cancellation of 10 scheduled trips.
He added that one ferry en route from Langkawi to Kuala Kedah at 11am had to turn back halfway due to choppy seas.
"Affected travellers are entitled to refunds, and updates can be accessed through the Cuti-Cuti Langkawi mobile app for future reference," he added.
On Monday, 1,246 passengers were stranded when ferry services between Langkawi-Kuala Kedah and Langkawi-Kuala Perlis were suspended due to poor weather conditions.
On Tuesday, over 3,945 passengers travelling between Langkawi and Kuala Kedah were stranded following ferry service disruptions caused by rough weather.
Meanwhile, state Meteorological Department director Muhammad Khalil Abd Aziz has issued a continuous rain warning for the northern region, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, effective from Sept 15 to 19.
He also warned of strong winds and rough seas for the South China Sea and Northern Straits of Malacca from Sept 13 to 18.
"Wind convergence is likely in the northern peninsula from Sept 13 to 18, which may lead to prolonged thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds over the Northern Straits of Malacca," Khalil added.
