[Updated] Deaf e-hailing driver case: PM says case not closed [WATCH]

PUCHONG: The investigation into the assault of a deaf e-hailing driver is still ongoing, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"The police must be satisfied, the A-G (Attorney-general) must be satisfied (with investigation findings) and take action.

"The country follows the rule of law, but don't judge based on perception or hearsay; is there clear evidence?

"Who said the case is closed?" he told reporters after performing Friday prayers in Kampung Pasir today.

He said he personally took interest in such cases, whether they involved the disabled people or the abled-bodied.

On May 28, a disabled e-hailing driver lodged a police report alleging that he was punched by a VVIP's bodyguard.

Police have called 12 people for questioning over the case, including the victim, the escort, hotel staff at the scene, police's Special Action Unit, the complainant's acquaintance; a doctor and a Grab operations director.

On Sept 5, the driver, Ong Ing Keong, handed over a memorandum to the prime minister over the failure to prosecute the security escort policeman for the assault.
