Titi Gajah congregants perform Friday prayers despite floods

ALOR STAR: The floods did not deter over 300 congregants in Titi Gajah from performing Friday prayers at Masjid Tuan Hussain here today.

To assist the elderly with disabilities and children, the mosque committee provided a 10sq m water tank to safely transport them, as the mosque's compounds were inundated by knee-deep floodwaters.

The mosque's imam, Mohd Adib Omar, 63, said the initiative was implemented to ensure the minimum requirement of 40 men for the Friday prayers was met.

"We are grateful that the main prayer hall is unaffected, allowing us to continue performing daily and Friday prayers," he said.

"The water tank belongs to a villager, who has been using it to transport belongings during the floods."

He said affected villagers were seeking shelter at nearby temporary flood relief centres after their homes were inundated.

Congregant Mohamad Fauzi Rejab, 67, praised the mosque committee's initiative as it helped those in need perform their prayers.

"For elderly folk like me, this is a safer option compared with wading through floodwaters, fearing that we might slip and fall."
