Number of Penang flood victims at relief centres declines

GEORGE TOWN: The number of flood victims in Penang continues to decline.

Up to 4pm today, there were 497 victims from 136 families housed at seven temporary flood relief centres in three districts on the mainland.

This morning, the total was 556 victims from 152 families at seven temporary flood relief centres.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said with the improving weather, he expected all flood victims to return home in a day or two.

"From the reports I received, there are several temporary flood relief centres still operating.

"However, we expect the flood victims will be able to return home in a day or two due to the change in weather patterns," he said today.
