Kota Setar still hit-hard as number of Kedah flood victims decline

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has declined as weather conditions improve, leaving around 7,300 people displaced across five districts.

A 4pm update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported 7,383 evacuees remaining in 44 flood relief centres, down from 8,051 recorded this morning.

All 30 flood victims from 11 families sheltering in a single centre in Baling earlier today had been allowed to return as floods in the district receded.

However, Kota Setar remained the worst affected, with 3,952 evacuees from 1,188 families sheltering in 16 centres, up from 3,858 reported earlier.

Kubang Pasu followed with 2,206 evacuees from 681 families in 13 centres, while Pokok Sena had 583 evacuees from 176 families housed in four centres.

Padang Terap was the fourth most affected, with 331 evacuees from 94 families placed in four centres, and seven shelters in Sik were hosting 311 evacuees from 95 families.

Meanwhile, the Kedah Civil Defence Force reported a drop in water levels at four rivers in Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar.

They included Sungai Bata in Kubang Pasu, as well as Sungai Kepala Batas, Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman, and Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR Bridge in Alor Star.
