KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has increased to 8,066, housed in 41 temporary relief centres, as of 8pm today.
This is a slight rise from the 8,022 evacuees from 2,568 families recorded at 4pm.
According to the Disaster Info portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the evacuees, from 2,582 families, come from five districts.
Kota Setar has the highest number, with 4,291 people, followed by Pendang (1,483), Kubang Pasu (1,349), Pokok Sena (796), and Bandar Baharu (147).
The Public Infobanjir website from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reports that five rivers in the state are at dangerous water levels: Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas, Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata in Kubang Pasu, Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman, Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR Bridge, and Sungai Kedah at the Lebuhraya Bridge, Kota Setar.
In Perak, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood victims remains unchanged at 27 people from five families housed at the Changkat Lobak relief centre in Kerian, as of 8pm.
The state DID also noted that the Bukit Merah reservoir in Kerian is at a warning level, with water levels at 9.08 meters.– BERNAMA
